Predator ID problem? SKUNK? Update pg 2

I am glad you caught the one skunk...keep up the predator captures!

As to livestock guardians....G.P. and Anatolian Shepards are fabulous...they live to protect their animals and do the job well. We are considering a GP right now.

The person I am trying to get the guard dog from has one that is a great perimes (sp ?) mixed with a Russian breed that is East Asian Mt Sheperd I believe. The 2 yr. old male they are looking for a home for is a purebred East Asian Mt Shepard. Looks just like a very large yellow lab to me but stronger boned. His are very gentle to the livestock, hang out with the chickens, sheep and sleep out there all the time. Friendly to all the other dogs who show up for our dog herding classes, so I believe they are not a mean dog, just very protective of livestock. They have not lost one chicken (out of 45) free ranging on 5 ac. since they got the dogs which watch the 20 ac. next door with sheep and the house area. I was thinking last night that is going to be the only way to protect as if I get the bobcat, then there is the skunks, racoons, coyotes, always something. I'm calling the U.S. trapper today to catch the bobcat. They will do that here in CA for you. Last wk they caught a bear in the neighbors yard that was killing they mini goats, but there will always be something to replace predators. Try the dog thing if you can. When my lab was alive (died 6 mos. ago) he kept everything out of the yard and never had a problem.
