Predator proofing a large run. Any tips/suggestions on covering it?

What we did (and this increased the height of the run above the six foot level of the dog run):

This run was only 7 feet wide. You might need to add additional supports to go the 12 foot width, especially if snow weight is a concern in your area. We used 3/4" pipe; 1 - 1 1/2 pipe would add more stability.

Given the width of your run, cattle panels came to mind for me too. Also, using EMT (metal conduit) works well for greater spans and it supports tarps or hardware cloth or chicken wire or whatever your topping of choice is - and it is easily bendable to whatever shape you need and it is fairly cheap.

Try electric fencing...I have two electric fence pieces that makes my fencing 200' long. I have my coop as the "hub" with a range coop that I move around with the fencing. I have raccoon and hawk problems. The electric fence takes care of the raccoons (and keeps my dogs away) and the range coop provides additional shelter from the hawks while they are free ranging.

Our chickens' yard is a little to big to put anything on top, so we concentrated on making sure no one could dig their way in. We attached chicken wire to 2-3 feet from the bottomof the fence (on the inside), threaded it under the fence and outward for about a foot. We staked it into the ground and covered it with gravel. I hope this helps.
