Predator turns out to be prey

Nothing better than a Game Hen as a mother, they will go toe to toe with anything to protect their chicks. The best mothers I have ever had have been American Game Hens.

My evil spur-hen, whom I wrote about in another thread here, The Wicked Witch Of The Spur, was a wheaten OEG.

I'm getting into OEG's because they're the default chicken around here. They run around feral, and they take terrific losses to predators each year, only the fittest survive. I haven't seen a mean (to me) OEG yet, though. They're just good moms.

As for spurs I still think the best solution is to get one of those little Dremel tools sold for trimming dogs' nails, and round off the spurs.
