Predators Abound!

If a tool for setting is available, get it. The trap comes with a short section of chain (if using a post - for example - all that is required is a long bolt and nut), but if one is wanting to use the trunks of trees for anchors (handy when ground is frozen), then a longer chain is required.

I have found with the live traps I needed to put a plexi side part of the way in the middle. This blocked them from reaching thru the trap sides and moving the bait to the back so they could get it without going in. They are very crafty and learn quick. I guess its survival mode. The other problem I had was when caught they somehow could flip the trap and get out.
Not all but the smarter ones. Solved that by fastening the trap to a thin piece of plywood. That seemed to solve most of the capture problems. Cheapest cans of fishy canned cat food worked the best. When I lived in the residential suburbs
we would catch up to 13 a year. After capture I would put cage and all in the back of my pickup and give em the long country ride about 15 miles and release them.
Now I live in farm country and don't bother with traps . Just use the .22

You only need to add a chain to wrap around something, if you cannot stake the trap adequately. Depending on your soil, a 1/2-inch dia. iron rod 2 feet long is about the most you'll ever need. And that's only if you have very soft ground.

I've never seen a tool to set the DP traps. But, you seem to have all the muscle-help you need. After talking with some trapping supply dealers and some actual trappers themselves, they told me that the DP type traps have revolutionized coon and possum trapping. I can't say I'm surprised. They've worked flawlessly for me the last couple of years. If we spot a raccoon or possum around the place, it's caught very soon thereafter! Most of my chicken-raising neighbors borrow my DP traps on a regular basis with the same success.

My bait is fish guts or sardines mixed with fruit preserves (grape or strawberry). Leave a few globs around the traps to give them a taste and you'll trap em.
