I have a white leghorn, 2 New Hamshires, and a Rhode Island Red that are all about 19 weeks old. 3 or four weeks ago, a red tailed hawk swooped down into the run and attacked the white leghorn. Luckily I was able to chase the hawk off and the chicken was fine. Now I am wondering if this event will cause the hens not to lay. Haven't got any eggs yet, but I'm thinking that scare might cause them not to lay. any ideas???

It could delay for a short while....how traumatic was it? Once they settle in and forget the hawk things will return to normal...hope you are putting a top on your run now.

It was not that traumatic. None of the hens were injured. I can imagine that they would be able to remember the event for too lng right??
