I going to have a run on My coop. the coop will be about 100' for the house. I plan to shut my chickens up at night, Still one of my brothers wants to run electric to the run for awhile to keep away coons and other predators . We have No children in the Neighborhood And he said it can be on a timer also I can turn it off and on when I want. He is a Electric Contractor . He says it won't kill them just keep them away. We also have a leash law here in Ky but dogs are running everywhere. I called Animal control before and it is a waste of time . the owners put them up for a day or two or say they don't belong to them. I don't want my chickens killed . Any advice?

Are you talking about a regular electric fencer used by many farmers and livestock owners or is your brother talking about running electricity out to the run and using that house power to electrify a fence? Using an electric fencer to energize a fence is quite safe however running a wire out from the house and connecting a hot lead to your fence can be very dangerous even lethal to people or animals and you could run into serious trouble if you go that route and someone is injured.

The Regular Electric Fencer(livestock Type). He used it to keep his Mule in the Pasture . It would get out walk down the road until it got in front of His house and stand right in the middle of the road. Sometimes @5:00am Still I hate for Anything to get a shock. Thanks for the information.

Make sure it's a pulsing charge and not a constant one, predators get zapped and probably won't return, but it won't kill anything or hurt anyone foolish enough to grab it despite the warning signs.
