I am moving soon. While looking at the house we are moving to, we found a bunch of GIANT feathers. Obviously from a raptor.

I raise rabbits, so I am trying to figure out what these feathers came from so I can take steps to protect my rabbits when I move into the new place.

Any ideas of what type of Raptor left these?

It is illegal to possess any raptor's feathers. The law was written in a fashion to make prosecution easy. It makes it that all they have to do is to catch you with possession of the feathers without having to prove that you killed the bird. This is part of the Migratory Bird Act.

FOR GOODNESS SAKES! THATS NOT WHAT I ASKED!

I thought that law only applied to eagles. Well, looks like I am stupid.

Thanks for putting fear of the law into my heart while I was already under tremendous emotional stress!

The law applies to all protected wild bird feathers be they from songbirds or raptors. I am sorry about your emotional stress but you brought this on yourself.

Where are you located? This looks like its a good probability for a Canada Goose Feather.

While R2elk is absolutely correct concerning the law, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've yet to have a wildlife officer, either state or federal, come on my back porch to view the numerous barred owl feathers I've collected from my yard.
Knowing your location can help determine what bird it may be from.
