Predatory birds??

If you have recurring eagle attacks of agricultural livestock and you don't want to buy a permit you can contact Federal, tribal, State, or local government agencies that can take care of the problem for you.

I free range 14 mallards during the day, but not at night. Owls, Hawks and Eagles will take them. I have put long screws sticking out of the poles on my pens because the hawks will perch on them. They are protected, can't shoot them. At night all my birds are behind wire with access to housing. 40 quail, 32 pheasant, 14 mallards, 5 chickens. This time of year they are too busy with all the pheasants the state of Connecticut has stocked. Just part of doing business.

Do you know of anyone who has contacted their "service" and gotten a bird removed? In reality, IT JUST DOESN"T HAPPEN. That's the sad reality. Pigeon fanciers have been trying to get these permits or "services" for years. I have never known of one being issued or "service" being performed. Once again has anyone on these boards ever received such a permit or "service"?

Doesn't hurt to try. It's better than trying to take care of it yourself and getting a load of fines and time.

Seriously, does anyone know of anybody who has received such a permit or "service'? This is something that I would love to be wrong about. Sadly, I think there is no way we can legally protect our birds from aerial predators. Other than keeping them in completely enclosed pens. The year that I gave up trying to field a competitive kit of Birmingham rollers, I had more than 80 pigeons killed by hawks. I could no longer justify flying these pigeons.

Well I know a guy (not personally) that has a falconry permit in Missouri and it allows him to take birds of prey (not including the Bald and golden eagle) like the hawks. I have been to his place a few times but never actually talked to him about it. And i think he also uses it to take the birds and trains them for falconry hunting if I'm not mistaken.

Falconry permit and the taking of birds from the wild for that sport is completely different from the removal of a predatory bird of prey that is killing your birds. In most instances there are restrictions on the age and breed of hawks that falconers are allowed to take. They are limited primarily to the taking of juveniles which must eventually be returned to the wild. Somewhat doubtful about that "authorization to sell" hawks taken from the wild.

I tried to read all the regulations on it but my internet wouldn't load the 50 CFR 21.28 page.
But in the overview it says they are allowed to "take", in other places on the U.S. Fish and wildlife site they use that reference to harvesting them.
But like i said i didn't get to read all of it, does it allow you to "take" birds of any age or is there special conditions about it?

You could always just scare them away, and how do you go about herding a bird?

Other than that i haven't heard of anybody applying for a permit.
We have a lot of red-tailed hawks around here, and it seems like the old farmers don't care to file for a permit and usually end up keeping there old pistol in there pocket waiting for them to strike.
