hello i got a cat its quite young i was planning on getting it neutered but the vet told me she is pregnant :O
i live next to a busy road and my cat is very road safty i do not allow my cat indoores becouse my daughter is allergic to cat hair
when my cat has kittens will she teach them to cross the road safly or will they get killed :O what do i do

I would never neuter a animal like why if they neuter us how would you like it? Well anyway the mom will probably be with the kittens for the day they can't really walk so she'll care for them... the other option you give the kittens away, but I'm sure she will teach them to do stuff... I don't know much about cats tho I'm more of a dog person anyway best of luck with youre kittens

You do realize that surgical birth control is used on both male and female humans, don't you? Beyond the rather absurd comparison, can you provide a reasoned argument against prevention of overpopulation and uncontrolled breeding?

I normally don't respond to posts that I disagree with but this is something I feel strongly enough about. As a veterinary nurse who has worked in everything from zoos and farms to clinics and shelters, cat and dog over population is a HUGE issue. There is absolutely NO reason that they should not be spayed/neutered. Because people subscribe to the same theory you have mentioned, our shelters are completely over run with dogs and cats (cats increasingly out numbering dogs). When the majority of shelters are full, they turn to euthanasia to make more room for the thousands of other animals that need to come in. So is it better to perform a simple spay/neuter procedure that any vet (or nurse for that matter) could do in their sleep or euthanize millions (yes millions) of cats and dogs a year because people won't responsibly care for their pets?

As to the original post - she won't go to far from the kittens for awhile. Depending on of she hunts or if you provide her food will determine where she goes and how long she is gone. Once the kittens are more mobile they will begin to do their own thing but not stray to far from "home base" with mom (she likely won't "travel" with them). Once they are weaned (4-8 weeks) they will really start doing their own thing and venturing out on their own. 8-10 weeks would be a good time to rehome them if you aren't planning on keeping them.

Are you out of your mind? I strongly suggest you spend some time time in the kill room of the local animal shelter and see if you still feel the same way. For the record, spaying before the first heat does a lot to prevent breast cancer in dogs.

Cats. Cats have a higher percentage of malignant mammary tumors than dogs. Plus the breed of the dog is relevant to it's risk of mammary cancer (and pyometra). If you want to spend hours pouring over health statistics, read the studies Agneta Egenvall did with Swedish insurance data. Fascinating stuff. She also did some studies on horses.

Here's the abstract of some pyo statistics- though this doesn't mention the rate of neutering dogs in Sweden at the time... between both sexes less than 10% were neutered. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1939-1676.2001.tb01587.x/abstract

Sigh, now I've totally changed the subject.

Jammyjammy2112- while cars are a major risk for cats and kittens, your kittens also have an extremely high risk of illness as well as other dangers. Please ask around for help with spaying her if you're going to keep her. Also ask about help with rehoming or fostering the kittens. Life on the streets now days is risky and hard for felines and death is not always quick.

Getting your cats and dogs fixed is essential unless you are a breeder for show. If have dealt with many ignorant or arrogant owners who apparently feel it is inhumane to fix the animals. It is not. Animals are animals and will continue to breed until they die. I have neighbors who got a a pair of cats, did not fix them, fast forward a couple of months and there were around a hundred cats and kittens ridden with fleas, starving, and had skin rashes. I stressed to the owners the severity of the issue and all they did was feebly attempt to rehome a few kittens. I ended up paying several hundred dollars trapping fixing and finding homes for the cats. I still have a bunch of the rescues as my own pets. After all of that done, the idiots decide to get more cats that are not fixed. They already had a few that I fixed for them. Now there are starving kittens, I will address then issue to the police before it gets out of hand again.
