pregnant rabbit.. Past due?((UPDATE. OP and page #2)

UPDATE: I checked on the rabbits about 11PM and she was plucking fur like a madanimal. She had her kits the same night. I check on them this morning, and there were FOUR kicking, warm, plump sausage-like bunnies in there.

Now Doe #2 should be due in the next few days.

I won't be so worried this time.


This past Wednesday was day 28 for doe #1, and then Sunday was day 28 for doe #2. Neither have pulled fur, but they have created burrows in the nest box. #1 has me worried, she was supposed to have kindled Saturday or Sunday, correct? She hasn't even pulled any fur, there was blood in and below her cage, but it was in her urine. I haven't examined her, because I didn't want to stress her out.

Any advice? Are they often this late? If #1 simply just a couple days late, why hasn't she pulled or lined the nest with fur?

Most rabbits kindle at 32 days. Not 28. Give them a couple more days.

Rabbits can kid usually anywhere from 29-33 days.

Oh, I understood that they don't kindle day 28, that's the suggested day to add the nest box, correct? That was why I was using it as a measurement of time. I mark day 28's on the calender so I know when to introduce the nestbox.

I guess I am jumping the gun a little bit. I just thought they would have at least started pulling fur!

No worries. They'll be fine, nothing wrong with caring too much!

Some rabbits don't pull hair till the day of, some will start early. Box induction on day 28. I had two new batches of kits this week. One rabbit didn't start till the evening of pulling her hair and this is her third litter but she only had 1 and it passed away. The other started on day 27 pulling and nesting in her litterbox so I had to stick her nestbox in early. She gave me 6, two of which passed.

You want to put the nest box in at about day 25. Because few does will kindle at day 28. But most go to 32 days. Some will go as much as 35.

I caught her plucking fur last night and then the fur piles were moving this morning. Thank you everyone. I don't know how many are in there, didn't want to mess with her nest for a couple of days. They seem alive and well to move the hay and fur of their nest.

BTW, mine never pulled their hair until the day of either.

Kim, I'd go ahead and check them right away for dead ones. Don't worry, you won't be bothering her, or them by having a look. Just pet the momma a little bit while you are doing it.
