pregnant rabbit.. Past due?((UPDATE. OP and page #2)

If your doe is ok with your hands being in the cage just give her a baby carrot and she will watch you while she munches.

I was glad I followed the advice to check to see what was in there. On day 2 I checked there were two dead one below the two live ones. If I had not checked they would have made the healthy ones sick. It seems invasive when you are new to it - but I found it to be a worthwhile risk.

Congrats to you and mamma.

I'm curious to know if you guys are raising the rabbits for meat. My husband and I were thinking about doing this. He raised meat rabbits growing up but I'm a little bit unsure still.

Not sure about wolf kim, but I raise mine for meat and showing.

If you are going to do rabbits the best thing to do is get involved with showing. You learn alot, meet a lot of nice people, and have a lot of fun.

I raise mine for meat. These are my first rabbits and as with all my animals, I wouldn't mine exhibition as well as use, I just haven't gotten that far. I will eventually get that far, but for now my thrown together cages and my mutt meat rabbits will be just fine.

I checked and there are FOUR baby buns in there, fat, plump, and warm. Each one kicked as I touched it.

Thanks everyone.

Kim,
That is great, you are now a rabbit mama!!! Now you just need to find just the right recipe for your first homegrown rabbits.
Good luck with the kits.

The mother is doing well, she is actualy quite attentive with them.

When she isn't in the nest she builds up a wall to keep them in a cubby 'room' in the back of the nest.

No, pictures. Maybe in a few days, I really didn't want to mess with them too much. I didn't even take the time to snuggle and aww over them. LOL

Glad to hear they are doing well. I have only ever had one doe go over her due date (day 31) she went 2-3 days over and died while trying to have them. She was the prettiest California satin I have ever seen excellent sheen. Wish she had been able to deliver them they would have been good show bunnies.
