Premier Fence Poultry Net/Fence

I'm considering Poultry net from Premier1Supplies. It has the ability to be electrified and comes as a kit complete with the poles. It appears that if can be moved very easily. My needs are mostly to keep my chickens in my own yard. My neighbor doesn't mind the 6 hens that I have outside right now scratching for bugs in his flower beds, but when the 25 I have in the brooder are ready for the big, wide world I think he will feel differently. Besides, the ability to electrify it easily and inexpensively is a selling point for me. I also think I would get a far larger run (and have the ability to move it if I chose) than I would get spending the same amount on fence posts and garden fence. And chain link fence is WAY out of my price range.
Has anyone had experience with this product?

I have a friend who uses it for his 60 birds and thinks it's great. Keeps it hot all the time though. He has not lost any birds though a few have flown out. I just ordered mine will let you know how it goes.

That stuff is not really designed to keep chickens IN ... it is designed to keep predators OUT.

Any chicken that wants to fly over a 4' fence, will do so. Clipping a wing may or may not prevent that.

Honestly, if all you want to do is restrain the chickens, I would not spend hundreds of dollars on electronet and charger and all... I would just get some plain cheap garden netting or deer netting, preferably 6' high if you can find it and your yard is un-wind-y enough for that height to stay put. Use bamboo stakes or Tposts or whatever to support it (bamboo stakes are easily moveable, T-posts less so). And there ya go.

I used chicken wire for my run and the bird netting on the top to keep the chickens from flying out. The other day I had to move the yard and in the process I made it bigger with the left over bird netting. I was suprised how well it worked as fencing. The dogs absolutly hate the stuff. It gets stuck to them and drives them crazy. They stay far away from it, so I figure most other animals probably feel the same way.

I think Premier is a really good company with good products, but I wasn't that happy with the poultry netting. My BO's flew right over the top and even though I mowed the grass and put it up on level ground I just couldn't keep it from sagging pretty badly. I even used extra posts and guy lines on the corners to try and keep it tighter, to no avail. I also used the recommend charger but couldn't get it energized as high as they recommend for poultry. I've been meaning to call and talk to them about what I might be doing wrong, but for the time being they are just free ranging and seem to be doing fine. I do realize it's more for keeping predators out, than poultry in. Chris

We have the Premier Poultry fence and like it, but we like the option to move it easily. Some of the smaller chickens try to push the through the larger holes to get out, but the bottom few strands are smaller squares, so try to keep the strands from sagging too much. They haven't gotten out in awhile. We don't electrify it though either. I just got another one and am using it to keep my horses on our property while we let them graze down areas that we usually mow...that section IS electrified. We got that fencing to enlarge the free ranging area for the chickens and will use it soon for that.

I also agree with Pat, use some netting or cheaper mesh fence with t-posts or something if you aren't going to move it around alot...we use regular green garden mesh and t-posts to keep our dogs contained, works fine.

If hawks are a problem in your area, I think chickens would still be at risk with that type of fencing.
