Yes. Buff Orpingtons are really nice. They are also GREAT layers. They lay at least one every day and a few times my barred rock laid two a day!!^This! I second it. I live in Utah, where it's COLD a lot of the year unfortunately and we have terrible winters. I just got a barred rock, rhode island red, buff orpington, and black sex link. They are great layers, really cold hardy, and are some of the friendlier breeds.Good luck and enjoy!
Food will be needed, and make sure they have water at all times! I live in Iowa, so we get both hot and cold extremes!

I must say, that i have trouble with their info. It is usually a little weird.As far as breeds, you could take a look at mypetchicken.com - they have a nice tool on the left side of the page to get their suggestions for cold hardy. It is a good resource. They are one of the online ordering hatcheries that personally I have had a very good experience with, there are others and other options for getting your chicks.
