Prepping Silkies for show

My son wants to show his Silkies (among other birds) in our state fair as an open entry this year. Needless to say, we're now prepping.

Our partridge rooster is growing feathers back in and lost some weight after a dog attack about a month ago. What can I be doing to help him gain back condition and feathers? I've been offering him hardboiled eggs in addition to his feed and grains.

What shampoo do you guys recommend for grooming? What about conditioner or is that a no?
