. I watched a tutorial on storing fresh eggs , she used a lyme and water solution and was able to store the eggs for 8 months. The eggs were not washed so the protective coating was still on, therefore the solution did not penetrate the egg. My mother in law ( who is 83). told me her mother use to put the eggs in a solution ,she didn't know what it was, to keep the eggs over winter. Has anyone tried this.

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I regularly keep fresh unwashed eggs in my fridge for 6+ months... and they are still better than store bought!

No $ spent or time or energy. ;)

I imagine that solution would wash the bloom off or render it irrelevant and if left in for very long WOULD penetrate the egg eventually... since standard water is enough to wash off bloom and egg shells are porous.

Egg producers use a thin coating of mineral oil to preserve freshness after washing. Store bought eggs can often be 30-60 days old already. :sick

So I would just put then in the fridge. However, experiments CAN be fun.. it would be cool to run a side by side comparison and see the difference if there is one in the end result! :wee

Wow had no idea eggs could keep for 6 months in the fridge. No need to bother doing anything else. Much easier. Thanks for your help.

Very welcome! I would say just candle the eggs so u dont have cracks :sick :lau
I got up to 8 doz in the fridge a time or two and put em on CL when they get that build up, they all were sold on there. Probly people selling em to other people but i dont care so longs i got my askn price.
