I recently read an article about how NJ's bobwhite quail population is at a steady downfall. After reading the article, i felt like i wanted to help somehow. I live in a suburban neighborhood, but have acres of woods behind my house. I have raised chickens/ducks/pheasants before, but never quail. How would i go about trying to help raise and release bobwhite quail and try and get a striving population in my area? I am a wildlife science major in college, and would like to somehow use this as a research project, but not sure who i would contact to get it started. Any information would be appreciated.
thanks

Put them out in a johnny house, hard to explain try google,
The problem with quail in the south is fire ants.
Next your post says woods in back does not really sound like quail could live there with out help, that where the johnny house comes in.
good luck
As far as raising quail they do well but you have to keep them dry.

you might check with your DNR, game and fish etc too, in Va. we need a permit to keep and release Bobs that and chukars and phesants Va's pemit is easy and fairly quick
