Presidential Pardon

Quote:
I know they always pardon one, silly! They are usually not meat birds. They usually pick the meat bird as the one that gets the ax. Someone forgot to give the Prez the right speech.

You're losing me here- I heard the speech, he pardoned the turkey and made a joke about it not being eaten?

Most breeds reach a certain size like a chicken, but the BBW's will continue to grow until they crush themselves - can't get up to walk and eat, etc. I guess I didn't mean speech - I meant he chose the wrong bird.

That is all the opinion of the owner I guess. Ours was supposed to be dinner this week, but Ken decided he is too attached. I had no problem with it.

I agree Debi.

The Broad Breasted White is to Turkeys as the Cornish Rock X is to Chickens.

No matter how well they are treated, they won't be the happy "farm bird" that everyone thinks they should be.

With the education system as it is, its likely that most don't even know the relationship between the pardoned turkey and the one that comes from the grocery store...

I guess I really don't understand the point of the thread........Its a turkey to most people, they don't know breeds or genetics.......And I do not think the President has the time, or the knowledge of specific genetic alterations to give the general American public an accurate education.

To most people it is a fun thing...a turkey saved on turkey day! What a deal.

So, what was your point?

The point:

Why save a turkey that's going to die soon anyway? It will die within a few months from "crushing" itself as debi put it.

The reason it's the point:

Why not save a wild turkey or a "heritage" turkey that will live longer and would have been a better learning experience for children?

Hilarity of the "healthcare for life" (my viewpoint only):
The bird's going to die in a few months anyway...not really going to cost much now is it!
