I end up using french with them as my accent (yes i'm an american) confused the darn computer as well...

As someone who worked with a call center that took at least 2K calls a day with 30 people - I got the horrid caller. Sorry, our system was clear and easy. Get vile with me, I hang up and you get to call back.
 
Sears has the worst voice mail system in the known universe. I think demons were involved. Every single time I need to use it, I end up swearing and stomping around. It is nearly impossible to get a real human being, and when they do, they don't listen and transfer you.

I used to work in tech support. It just made me worse. You called us you always got a person by the second ring. I expect better now.
 
Doesn't always work, but I try ignoring the prompts, most will auto-forward you to a person. It works about 75% of the time. OR, I say I don't have the account number.
If it's a voice system, I start saying representative, asscociate, account assistance, operator, reception - usually one of those will shut the danged machine up!
