Pretty Barbara...any info on breed?

Well, I'm truly hoping that Barbara is accurate as finding a home.foe a roo isnt t :(e easiest and they arent petmitted in NYC. Fingers crossed. Turns out she was bought at a live poultry place, which we called. The guy want to knowledgeable (chickens need a mate to have eggs...won't see eggs til about two years old...etc.)

But he did say it was a hen and the birds they sell are about 6 to 8 weeks old and Elvire had her for 1.5 weeks which makes her 9.5 to 10 weeks old max. Yet she definitely looks older than that in height and girth compared to my two silver laced Wyandottes which are 11.5 weeks old now.

I'm leaning towards a Cream Lender also with her single comb and yellow legs. But I'm not ruling out Euskal Oiloa. I will get a better pic tomorrow to post. Thanks to all for your comments.
 
You don't really believe that fool at the shop who thinks chickens begin to lay at age two knows how to tell a young female from a male, do you? Honestly, I don't see how it could be a female if the age is anywhere close (and I suspect that it is close!) but it will be plain as day in another month or so when he's crowing at full volume. Were you given any guarantees? Can he be returned?

Sorry you had this bad experience.

I've had hens lay at 18 weeks, which is 4 months old. Most start around 5-6 months though.

Oh if that chicken is only 9.5 to 10 weeks old then I would say it is probably a cockerel (agreeing with the others here) but I am not sure.

Oh boy...not good news. If she's a he,maybe someone knows of a home. Time will tell. Again, fingers crossed.
 
I know! Hopefully, she/he won't crow....or at least quietly! Haha. I will be keeping you all updated and rehome if necessary. With everyone here, at least I know I won't be going through it alone. :)
