The coop plans are drawn, now it's onto the run. BUT we have a lot of predators where we are. Bears, fox, coyote, bobcat, birds and the list goes on. I've read a lot about how to deter the birds, already have a plan for the fox, coyote and bobcat. We have snakes a plenty for the mice. So really my concern is the bears.

My plan is to have a Coop, with a dust bath tire under it, with a run that will be enclosed on all 3 sides. We plan to dig down with 1/4" chain link and also do other type of reinforcement netting, chicken friendly plants/trees etc. One side of the run will open into our large fenced garden for the non growing months so they can roam in there and they will be free range a few days a week while we are hope. We do have dogs as well. Ironically someone told me to get a goat. Well the husband nixed that, so what steps can I take to make it harder for a bear to get into the run/coop.

The high voltage, fence with the hi-tensile strength wire keeps them out of our township dump.......
Where are you located? Black bears or bigger?

Northwest NJ. We have black bears... and they get pretty big here, so anywhere from 100 pound cub to a 600-700 boar/sows.
