OK, so here goes. I have 13 hens, they all seem happy and healthy. I have never checked them for lice or mites. Heck, i just found out how to check their vent from an article i read in a magazine. i love my girls, but now that i am reading and posting, i feel like i am not doing enough. (they all live the pampered life) I do not have a roo, got rid of him last year when he started to look at me meanly. So can a hen go broody without a roo. does she even know her eggs aren't fertilized? (i can hear laughing at that one) As some of you know, my husband just culled a sick hen a few nights ago. but the rest of my flock is just fine, well except for one hen with bald patches up both sides of her backside. So i should be checking for lice and mites even though they seem happy and healthy.
What else am i not doing correctly.
they eat laying crumble, oyster shell, sunflower seeds, scratch and cracked corn, they free range on over an acre have fresh clean water, a nice cozy hen house. they come a running when i say "good morning girls"
all seems happy and well on the farm. am i worrying for nothing?
