My brother exhibited my birds for me at the WI State fair in both junior and open classes. I was working at the fair and making bank and if you work there you're not allowed to exhibit. Both times I got best and reserve of breed, but I only thought one of the birds competing against me was actually good (and maybe should have won the breed.) Some of my pullets are shaping up nicely, but I have one nice hen who I chose a couple weeks before since I needed to stay at the fair for the whole time for my job and when my brother actually brought her she looked like a Grubbe because her tail was all gone. I'm okay with that though. She couldn't win big now but I want them all to molt right now so they're ready for the big shows this fall. D'Anvers hens don't look really good until their 1.5 year molt anyway, they get more neck and beard development then.
The cockerel is becoming really handsome, and Punkin may not have perfect coloring but he did really well because of his perfect condition he is in right now. His feathers are perfect and he's a solid boy.

3 d'Anvers hatched this morning!
My oldest bird is still Praline but the second oldest is now Lovebird the black free range d'Anvers hen. Ever since we got sold Starling, the oldest birds on this farm have been d'Anvers, but this is more because they are seen as pets rather than an indication of their lifespan. That said, many breeders say they have a longer lifespan than most breeds, but so far I haven't had one live longer than four.

4 years old?? Oh my, my d'Anvers are between 1 year and 10 years old. Some old ladies for sure but that doesn't stop them from their favorite past time... setting!!

Praline is 5 now (2020 hatch) and still going strong. I got my first d'Anvers 6 years ago though and those first two ladies already died so I haven't had my birds for long enough to see them reach old old age yet.

As proof of her strength and vitality, Praline was picking a fight with Margaret this morning. As the best-typed bird I would have brought her to the show but she was in a full molt. Now everything is coming back in.
