Hello Everyone,

I have an orpington hen that a few months ago, while something was being moved, got her leg under it and trapped (it was heavy). After she was released she had to hop on one leg. After a week or two she started to walk on it and just had a slight limp. The last week she has been limping really bad again and just lays around most of the time. She still eats and goes for treats I give them, but is moving only about 10% of what the others do. It has been over 90 here in michigan the last couple of weeks. Do you think that the heat could somehow effect it. Or something else? Thank you

Welcome to BYC. Sorry about your hen. It might take some time and observation of her, offering water and some food, limiting her jumping down from roosts, perhaps confining to a pen, to tell if she is suffering from the same injury. There could be some arthritis or damage in the leg, but if you look at her footpad for any scabs, at her leg for any swelling or bruising, and tell us if her leg is held up, dragged, or if she is putting some weight on it. A video of her walking posted on YouTube with a link here may also be helpful.

It can be common for injuries, and sprains or broken bones can take weeks to heal. Aspirin 81 mg orally or sprinkled on food for inflammation, and a half of a vitamin B complex tablet may be useful to help her.
