Previously sick rooster now fluffed up (PIC)

Hello, and thanks for looking. Some of my flock had sneezing, frothy eyes, and weezing. The state vet said it was CRD. I gave them Tylan 50 inject .25 cc for three doeses, every other day. This rooster seemed to get better. No more sneezing, or any other symptoms. He is eating, but feels light. His comb has shriveled up, and is very pale. I gave him vitamins and yougurt. Any other advice other than cull him? Thanks

I cannot say this enough...make sure ya worm!!!! I had what I call "snarkies" go through a few hens when our weather changed...when medicating a noticed hens were light and thinner that normal...I had a couple get paralyzed and had to cull them....turns out I had roundworms and lots of them....Huge old things...nasty...anyways once I wormed them (Used Eprinex pour on for cattle) I remedicated them. I have so many I only inject in rare occurrances...I medicated with the LS-50 in the water on the advice of a guy who has had chickens for years...I used Rooster Booster and PolyVisol baby vitamins (without iron) on the weaker ones and they are slowly starting to come around...they were so weakened by the worms that they could not fight off any infections. They are tougher now and gaining weight and even eating better....PM me if ya want more specific info....Hope your roo gets better soon...

Keep up the great work! It sounds like he is on the road to recovery. Scrambled or hard boiled eggs are a good treat and provide lots of extra protein.

How do chickens get worms, or any other of the internal pests, if they do not come in to contact with outside chicken flocks? I have a flock of almost 9 wks old chicks, who are being raised in a new coop, on virgin ground. Will I need to worry about worms too? They are currently free ranging inside in a run attacked to their coop.
Could any one please advise?

Worms usually come from ingesting various bugs: earthworms, cockroaches, flies, etc.

In addition to the worming advice, he did NOT get enough antibiotic if he had CRD. Depending on his weight (prior to illness) he likely needed at least twice that dose daily; perhaps more.

So you think I should have given him 1 cc daily? For how many days? Thanks for the info! The vet also had them on water soluable L-S. I don't think it is worms even though it does sound like that. Should I still worm now while ill? The vet said that I may loose some to illness, especially the smaller ones.

How large is/was he? What all meds is he taking? What exactly did the vet prescribe? How about taking a fecal smaple in to the vet for a fecal float?

He is less than a pound before and now. I had to order the L-S, and that was going to take 3 days. The vet then said to use the Tylan injectable while waiting for the other to come in. He is pretty far away from me, and I only spoke to him on the phone. Once the L-S came in I also used that for 6 days in the water. I saw immediate results from the Tylan though. He was one of the two sickest. The other died yesterday. She was about 1.5 lbs cochin. She was not eating though, and I kind of expected that. He is really hanging on, and fighting. I am wondering if the antibiotics messed up his stomach too much.

I am going to send the dead bird off for a necropsy. I am also going to see about the fecal exam from another vet tomorrow. Thanks for that idea! Even though my regular vet doesn't see poultry he can still check poo.

They are not on any antibiotics now. They have been done for about a week and a half.

At 1 lb he should probably been on about .5 to .75 cc. I would have to do the math, which is not my strong trait. Worms and mites/lice move in when a bird is weak (and cannot fight them off).

Let us know what you find out.
