Prey chickens?

Used to???? 🤔
True Bantams never have a Largefowl counterpart, otherwise they wouldn't be True Bantams, especially in the case involving silkies.

Kept as hawk bait to protect more expensive chickens? That sounds backwards, as most of the common production breeds are cheaper than crested chickens.

And if the special chickens are even more expensive than crested one, I would expect someone to just keep them in a safe pen. That would be MUCH more effective.

Once the crested chicken is gone, the hawk will come back for another chicken the next time it is hunting, so someone would need a constant supply of the crested ones to do much good. I could easily believe someone trying it (there's always someone who will try something once), but I don't think it would be very effective or even sensible from a cost perspective.

That’s exactly what I thought!
