I need to get rid of a rooster. We took a chance and ended up with 2. It's so hard to choose which one to get rid of because they both have awesome personalities. We have a 3 1/2 month old Rhode Island White and a 5 month old Easter Egger. Several times, they have gone at it, neither have spurs yet and it didn't last long but soon one will be doomed. So what is the going price of each breed? I don't want them to be food either so I don't want to "give" them away. It's not the money I'm after, I just want them to go to a good home. Any tips would be appreciated as I am new at this. Thanks!

I hate to say it, but I usually don't have much luck getting rid of roosters for anything other than soup birds. The only roos I have had good luck selling are Silkies, but I do occasionally get people wanting another roo for their flock. I usually don't put anything over $4.00 on them. I will say this, my roos get in squabbles all the time and my head roo has inch long spurs. Their little altercations never last more than several seconds. If they weren't dueling to the death, they were probably still trying to figure out who's "boss", which is normal when you keep multiple roos.

X2 on that. Sadly, there are loads of unwanted roosters out there on the market, and if they sell at all, they are a dime a dozen. Of the two you would probably have better success tying to sell the RIW as it is the rarer breed. EEs roos are especially numerous as statistically EEs are the most common chickens in the USA.

Well we've decided to just keep them and see what happens. (We're having issues w other birds now anyway, they are showing signs of having a resp. infection), anyway I have been told other people have had success with 2 roosters if they are raised together starting when they were young. I actually know a lady who has 5 roosters living happily in one pen... but then again, there are no hens in that pen either. I didn't want 2 roosters but I like them both. My riw i can hold and pet and he is so content that he "purrs" and falls asleep.
So here goes.
