I am new to raising Jumbo Coturnix - they are six weeks old now - I am wanting to keep some for egg production and selling the eggs. I am also going to sell some for meat birds. I am in Texas - South of Houston. I am just curious as to what the going rate is for eggs and meat birds. Does everyone pluck the quail and package the meat then sell it or just sell live meat birds?

Any advice is very much appreciated!!

Hi Amanda, fellow Houstonian!!! Eggs is from $2-$4 dozen for eating, and a few dollars more for hatching. A packaged ready to go quail is $6, the live ones are $5. Usually, you buy them live and process them yourself.

Make sure you know the regulations in your area for selling meat and eggs. I have my CA egg handlers license, but where I live there are a lot of hoops and licenses to get and it adds up to far more than I could get selling processed birds.

I actually just bought some plastic quail egg cartons from Amazon. Was $25 for 50 12 pack containers. I believe the 100 pack was like $45. I went with the 50 pack as that will take me quite a long time to get through. I would have taken less, as for now I just want a container to store eggs in for my wife and I but that was the smallest I found for a reasonable price.
