Prismacolor pencils-- what is your experience with them?

Hi,

I have a bunch of black and white pictures that look rather bland, and I want to give them some color. I was thinking Prismacolor pencils, because they look good from what I've seen. What do you think of Prismacolor pencils in general? Are they as vivid, and smooth as they are advertised? Are they worth the price?

I've been using Prismacolors for quite a while and I really do like them. They're very vivid, easy to use, smooth, and nice--great for blending. Just be sure to get a good pencil sharpener, as the leads have a tendency to break if not sharpened correctly. I think they are indeed worth the price!

I had a pack of those for an art class back in HS. We did black and white photography, and one of the assignments was to chose one of your BW phtots and give it false color with the pencils. The colors aren't "bright" but they really do stand out in a BW photo and are smooth. I really liked them from my limited experience.

We once got a huge box of assorted color pencils at a garage sale, and of all the brands, prismacolor was our favorite. We don't do any fancy/professional drawing/coloring, but we still really liked them for every day things. They're more durable and they made much prettier pictures than the awful crayola pencils...

They're my favorite pencils for drawing, very easy to blend. My icon is done in Prismacolors (if you're seeing a duckling, that was done in CP, I sometimes change my icon and I never know when someone will be reading this post).

I've heard of people using them in photographs, but I haven't used them so I can tell you how good they'll be for that project.

I've had Prismacolors in high school and four years of college....even it is expensive but worth the time and effort getting good pictures you created. As for photographs, not sure because pencils do not do too well taking it on unless you want to go watercolor.

I've had Dick Blick pencils, they are not as good as Prismacolors. There was one brand, made in Germany that was VERY good quality, a little higher priced than Prismacolors. I can not remember the name of it.

I'm a big fan of this brand. I specialize in colored pencil illustrations (animal and fantasy art) and I've tried most of the brands out there. You can't go wrong with these.

My dd is an artist. She does alot of charcoal pencil drawing and when she uses colored pencils she only will use the Prisma pencils. They are a little pricey though.
