I used to breed chickens and quail. I’ve been out of the hobby (instead of game) which is a huge passion of mine because I moved away from land. Anyways I saw on Nextdoor someone selling edible eggs. So of course my first question to her was, “Do you have a rooster and if so are your roosters mixed in or separated from your hens?” Because we all know if roosters are with the hens they stay “busy” more than the energizer bunny AND fertile eggs are edible. She told me she had several roosters and they are all together. Anyways I got 2.5 dozen eggs from her. Told her I wanted half of them from her silkie hens and also wanted 3/4 of the eggs to be pullet eggs. I was able to sex 17 of them that hatched. They are all now at my friends who has 60 acres. I kept 6 that are from pullet eggs and also Silkie Bantam crossbreeds with the fluffy legs and feet. They are 3 week old and still fit in my hand but are strong and very healthy! I’m stumped. I know Silkies are hard to determine sex but there has got to be people on here as passionate as I am with birds who have tons of experience and can tell 90% roo or pullet. I am going to attach some photos of the fluffybutts at different angles and then I can post the potential parents that they would have came from because they are all the chickens on the land of the eggs I got to incubate! Ignore the ducks I didn’t get any of those! I’ll put those in comments. Any help on roo pullet and their crossbreed type would be fantastic!

And here are all the potential parents except not all silkies are in the pics. Plus the eggs I incubated. I only did 28 eggs and 4 quit during hatch. So 24/28 success rate!

Pretty chicks and chickens.

I'm not sure what you meant by "pullet eggs" as there is no way on earth to tell what sex a chick will be before it's hatched.

The silkies you have, some look like cross bred with something else. Silkies shouldn't have pink or yellow combs unless they are a particular variety, which yours aren't, like cuckoos or mottleds.

Check their toes and make sure they have five on each foot, and they are all feathered. Then at that age, the comb should just look flat or eventually like a walnut, and black or dark purple in color.

I reread your post and it seems you do know they are crossbred? If so maybe in that case, they could be sexed a bit sooner. But still, at that age, they mostly all look like pullets.

Pure silkies cannot be sexed until they are around three to four months old, and some even longer.

Yes I know they are crossbreed. Some are from silkie hen and silkie cross rooster. Some are from silkie Egger hen and silkie Egger rooster.
