Hi, in early May I purchased 4 pullet chicks at Orschelns. They're my first flock and I was super excited. Sadly, we lost our buff orpington and black star to raccoons. After about a week since we lost our two, our remaining Production Red started attacking our bantam Cochin. I read that I should get more chickens to help balance the flock back to where it was. Our girls are three months old and so I got a 3mo silkie pullet to go with them. We set up a barrier in the run and let them meet each other, and everything seemed to be going fine so we let them free range together. It all seemed to be good and we put them all in the coop together. We were doing some gardening when we heard a lot of sqwauking coming from the coop, and we found our pro red sitting on top of the silkie, pulling out tons of feathers. We thought she was dead, but she survived. She slept in a cage in our garage last night and we tried to free range them together again today, but our pro red won't stop pulling out her feathers and pecking her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Production Reds can be aggressive, but not all of them I have one currently with my flock of 8 pets, and no problems. I have 2 Polish hens, and 5 Bantams. 2 OEGH, 2 Serams, and 1 Japanese bantie.
I also do not know your coop setup. Is it sufficiently large to house lets say 4 more chickens comfortably?? With larger flocks, the aggressiveness is not always less, but I also think, that chickens do develop friends within the group.
If tour Pro-Red stays very aggressive to many of the future chickens, then it may be time to re-home her. ,
How long was the integration period with the new addition Silkie? Newcomers are always picked on. Silkies are docile chickens with limited ability to defend/fight back abilities.
You may consider re-homing the silkie once recovered and get some other breeds.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome
