Probably a dumb question but if you don't mind....

.

I just throw a hand full of corn on the ground and call the birds....they come running to pick at the corn.....I choose a couple of birds, grab them one at a time and quick flip of the wrist breaks the birds neck. I throw them off to the side and walk away while they flop around. A while later I go back and pick up the dead birds and it takes me a couple of minutes to skin them. I take the birds in the house and clean them and bag them up and stick them in the frig. out in the garage. They are the birds I will cook for that week. No muss no fuss....the whole thing never even disturbers the rest of the flock still picking at the corn on the ground.

I wish I had someone to show me the neck snap. I have read how but have not had the courage yet to try. I slit throats (which I learned via BYC instruction). My hubby "helped" me yesterday but he offered only moral support

I made him come with me to the coop so I could grab 2 birds and I handed him a hen to hole. He had it for less than 5 minutes and said "I really want to just put it down and tell it to run". I think I tramautized him when I went ahead and processed it. He did clean up for me though.

LOL, my Grandmother is the one that taught me how to do it when I was still just a kid. It's more of a separation of the head from the neck than it is a neck snap. You grab the chicken by the head and use the weight of the bird to jerk the head up and pop the head loose from the neck. It's surprisingly easy to do. A fairly small kid can learn to do it.

It sounds like you don't bother to bleed the bird out.
When you snap the neck, do you hang it at all?
If not, do you soak it or anything after butchering to pull the blood out of the meat?
