This chick hatched today. Something is wrong with his leg. It moves just fine... the leg that is. He can't get around much as the leg sticks straight out in front of him. The other leg is normal. Any ideas? He's ok in all other ways. Just don't know what to do about it's leg.

It's in a tub with pine shavings. I put him on the floor for the picture. Couldn't see it in the pine shavings accurately enough.

I agree, not sure if there's much you can do for leg problems like this...I keep our newborn chicks for about a week on those rubbery shelf liner things...after that week, I switch them to poultry pads I get from eggcartons.com.

Here's a linkfor help with chick leg problems. VERY important. Keep your water dish off the floor if you do the bandaid treatment for spraddle legs. The babies will fall in and drown.... I say this from experience..... It hurts every time I think about how it could have been prevented.

Was going to do the hobbles and noticed this. It's a lump. It is also crusty. Any new ideas? He is getting around. Should I still do hobbles?

Just bumping up. Still haven't had any replies and now starting to worry. Don't know what to do.
