Greetings,

I have a duck that I recently removed from her nest. Her eggs were rotted, and raccoon activity has been up, and I didn't want her to be killed. Her friend was just killed by a raccoon, and she is now alone in her coop. I do have other ducks though. They don't totally get along, but one of them seems to like her ok. I am wondering if I should put them together, or if I should leave her alone.

I think she would probably appreciate a friend if they can get along. You don't think integrating her into the rest of the flock would work? By, not get along, how bad do you mean? How many drakes and hens do you have?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a better idea of your flock dynamics!

Please don't worry about questions! I just put one of my female indian runners in with her, and they seem to be doing alright. I think my next goal will be putting her with the rest of the flock, but I think she is still rather stressed out about her eggs, and being seperated from her nest. My drakes are farly rough, and I fear that they might injure her, but that is my only concern about putting her with the rest of the flock.

I think you have a good plan. I have had some success with this before, pairing a duck with a gentle friendly duck and then adding back with the whole flock. I think it can help the whole flock be more accepting since they already accept your runner. Hopefully she will be less worried about her eggs soon. Maybe some fresh swimming water could be a good distraction.
