We built the new coop and the older girls and their roo have been moved in for about a week now. When we first moved them in we only put hay down in the nesting boxes and they used them with no problems, so my DH cleaned out the floor and then put hay on the floor for easier cleanup and the next morning I went to collect the eggs from the nice boxes through the egg door and there were none! They decided to make a nest on the floor under the boxes in the corner past the roosts and lay there!
Basically I can't get to them without crawling through the muck to get it.
I left an egg in the nesting box where they were all laying the first few days, and this morning they still went after that corner. Even after I scraped the hay from it. The box is higher than the roosting posts, so I don't know if they just didn't see the egg or what, but it is not too high for them to get into, because they were already using it.
What to do?
