It was so devastating!! I literally cried myself to sleep several nights in a row.
The new babies ARE strong and healthy!

The coop has been fortified, and is on its 4th flawless night of testing,(with an unwanted rooster).
The rest of the flock sleeps peacefully, in a separate predator-proof dog kennel.

So sorry you lost that many birds very tough to handle...

Sadly, I went from 22 hens down to 5, while I was out of town for a month,(due to a major raccoon attack)
1 hen is broody with 5 chicks, leaving me with 4 layers.
I got 3 eggs today. 4 yesterday.

I’m so sorry for your losses.

I would cry every night too, how horrible. I hope you never have to experience such a thing again.

Especially since it had to be all of the favorites. All of my sweethearts died, and now I’m just left with the mean ones.

That is how it seems to go! I care about all of our birds but some are extra special! Every bird I have ever lost was one of those!

Why couldn’t it have been my Georgy?

Again... sorry. She looks like a sweetie First bird I ever lost was one of my Black Jersey Giants (Blue). She too was an awesome bird! We had an Easter Egger that did not like her from when they were just chicks. I would catch her pecking at Blue. I should have put her in jail but I thought it would be ok. It was not, I heard a bunch of noise in the run one day and the EE was standing on top of Blue pecking the crap out of her. I broke it up and took her outside and put her on my lap. I think she had a heart attack... She died in my lap... I felt like it was my fault, then I cried like a baby... Still bothers me over a year later...
