Problem with new chick.

My hen rejected her 2 last chicks to hatch. I zipped their shells because they were having trouble and put them back under her, just to witness to my horror as she kicked them around with the bedding the morning after, and I'm almost certain she left them uncovered all night that night, too.

These things happen, and it's no one's fault, and a lot of times there's nothing that can be done. Birds do the same in nature, so I wasn't upset with mama hen for rejecting them, but being a bleeding heart, I didn't want them to die. They got lucky and survived, but so many don't.

True. this was my 4th hatch (the 3rd hatch is still on going right now) and this chick was my second that had problems. my first chick for my first hatch 2 years ago got help from my mom. she helped it out of it shell, as it was stuck in side it. It turned into a nasty rooster, so it had to go, was given to animal rescue center.

I saw you post that the other eggs are late to hatch. Do you have somewhere you can brood them just in case they need help out of their shells?

Well I got a broody happily doing the brooding, if they do hatch before the day 25, okay good or if day 25 comes then I will remove them all, as on that day I will now for sure that the eggs are not go to hatch.
