Problem with new chickens please HELP!!!!!!!!!1

So yesturday I bought 11 n adults RIR, and since I got them I feel like my head is itching and sometimes it feels like I have bugs running on my body, could the chickens have some kind of bug and they pass it on to me?

Sounds like lice. While the lice will not live on you, they will get on you if you handle the birds. Do you see any small grayish bugs? Look around the vent area of a hen and you may see white eggs attached to the base of some of the feathers. After you handle a bird, do you see these bugs on your shirt, etc.? You can get powder from TSC or any feed store and powder the birds thoroughly and repeat it in 2 weeks. You may also need to spray the coop now and in 2 weeks with the same type of insecticide but in a spray form. There are all kinds available. Not to worry, this is treatable.

Omg lice!!!!!!!!! i dont really see nothing on my shirt after I handle them but its more than likely they have thaat, Im gonna go buy that tomorrow.

Yep, sounds like lice. Check around the vent and face, and under the wings.

you might be allergic. now to sound stupid--rub a chicken or feathers on the inside of your forearm. if it turns red or itchy your allergic. don't fear, just wear long sleeves and wash well before touching the rest of you. my son loved our chicks and then they got feathers and my boy sprouted hives. he still plays with them, he just washes up good Good luck!

I rescued a pup once, turns out he was swarming with lice. I found some on me, but the vet explained that they are type specific and couldn't survive on me. Got them off the dog, scrubbed myself with Brillo, (not really, but was tempted!) and all was well.

BUT! I really AM allergic to feathers and the dander! If I don't wash up well, and pretty fast, I do start itching, especially on my face, hands and forearms. That and a Benadryl a day let me keep chickens.

LOL, this thread is making me itch!
