Problem with Wet Eggs Stored in Carton?

After I rinse off any dirty eggs (warm water, no soap unless really soiled). I put them in the egg carton and then in the fridge. I've noticed that when I come back later there might be a slight puddle, or at least the bottom of the eggshell is damp because I am not drying off the eggs after I wash them.

Does anyone think this is a problem? All eggs are being used within three or four days.

And, for those who would tell me I don't have to wash my eggs... This thread isn't about whether eggs should be washed or not. This is about whether it's a problem not to dry them after they're washed. Thanks.

I just usually let them air dry on the counter for 10-15 min. I don't find that they puddle in the carton but I find they stick to the carton otherwise. But I think in the long run it doesn't really matter.

I think you really should be drying them before putting them in the cartons. Leaving them to sit in a puddle is asking for trouble even refrigerated.

Is there a reason you are not drying them.....I also let mine sit on the counter after to air dry if I have to wash. Saves having to dry and then no worries about puddles in the cartons. Although a simple dry with a paper towel would work if you dont want to leave them out.

No reason except pure laziness and hastiness. I suppose air drying on a towel would work just fine.

I was just wondering if it mattered given that any egg around here is used up in 3-4 days at the most. We even have a system of first-in-first-out so we're sure we don't have old eggs.

Refridgerating doesn't actually STOP bacteria, it just slows it down (hence food still goes off). A damp puddle is a breeding ground for bacteria, more so than dryness. I'd certainly dry if it's just a question of laziness
