Hey everyone,

I have this light silver colored CPQ/king quail chick that I believe to be a hen. She's showing some issues with the feathers on her wings, particularly visible on the flight feathers. Majority of them seem to be distressed/damaged at the same spot. What could be causing this malformation? My guess it's due to genetics perhaps, and I worry she might be at a risk to further health issues because of this. Would anyone know more about this condition? Is it tied to this particular coloration? None of the other chicks I've had from these parents have had this condition. I tried Googling but it's hard to find the proper words to describe this issue, so I found no results.

All knowledge would be greatly appreciated. I just hope to hear this lovely chick will be able to live a healthy life despite this. Or maybe the feathers would eventually grow out to be normal?

Thanks!!

The pulled-out (or molted) feathers look fine. Has she just shed her chick fluff? Or is this a new thing on old feathers? And what time of year is it where you are?

She's currently in the process of shedding the fluff, so these are her first flight feathers. I just don't think they look alright, they're wonky from the middle up. It is currently the middle of summer here.
