I was wondering if anybody has had this problem with their Galvanized waterers, for years I have had these two 5 gal waterers and they worked flawlessly not even one sign of rust either, anyway the other day I cleaned and disinfected them are got them looking all shinney and new. Now the bad news, afterwards I filled them and put them back into their place in the pens where I have been using them for many yrs. Now I can't get them to stop leaking, they are in good shape no dents, no rust, all the parts are in place and working. the floor is concrete and level in both pens no matter what I tried they just dribble over the edge until empty, Very frustrating. any suggestions on what may be the problem??amI overlooking something simple, help please.

Maybe if you jiggle the stopper a little? Could it be stuck, or have a little piece of grass or something stuck in the stopper hole? Don't know mine only do that when I put them on unlevel ground.

Did you scrub the stoppers and maybe abrade them a little, or abrade the area around the little hole? I can't think of any other good reason...sorry!

Edited to add: Here's another possible reason, which is the kind of thing I would do. Did you have a mental moment and forget that the hole is 45 degrees to the left (looking down from above) of the little sticky-out thing where you latch the waterer? That's the spot that needs to be at the lowest point. Sometimes I space off and decide it's 45 degrees to the right, which causes me to put the waterers backwards and makes them leak. Probably you're not as crazy as me, though.

Hey Al, it sounds like something is preventing the vacuum from taking hold. perhaps take them completely apart and check again. Even a pinhole by the handle could cause what you describe.

Good luck, those issues are so danged annoying!

I think this may have been the problem, I recently repaired the handles and reinforced them with nut's and bolt's. that is when they started leaking, so I applied some silicone to the outside and inside of the top, where the bolts are. I will find out this am if it worked and then I will know what the problem was.

Bingo! If the silicone doesn't work, try using leather washer. The conform and seal better than rubber ones.

Don't you just love silicone caulk? Great stuff!

I did add 3 synthetic washers to each bolt but they are pretty stiff. as I was aware of them possibly sucking air, I do have some leather I could use and yes silicone is great for many many things I like the smell of the acetate LOL.
