Have you had a similar experience?

I processed my 9 meat birds from my tractor this saturday
everything went fine

processed the birds
took a shower
ate dinner
turned on the tv
took a nap
but, then...

i began to puke uncontrollably
some serious upchucking - dry heaving - the works (haven't had this much fun since college)

when it was wearing down, i made the mistake of opening the fridge
the sight of the fresh meat made me sick all over again

it was so bad i had to borrow some "medicinal" from my neighbor to calm my stomatch down.

Have you had a similar experience?
and what do you think went wrong??

Maybe delayed reaction to all of the stress and emotion? If it was only the meat setting you off, then that is what I suspect. Your body is telling you about what you are suspressing.

I wonder if you could have been exposed to salmonella. The incubation period is only a few hours. Is there a chance you ruptured the intestines of any of the birds you were processing? I think if it were salmonella, the symptoms would last for at least a day or two, so if you aren't feeling better tomorrow, you might want to check with a doctor. If the symptoms pass, it may be as Elke Beck suggested, an emotional/stress reaction. I'm a master at being all calm and colleccted under stressful conditions, and when the stress if over, getting the shakes. Was this your first time processing/harvesting chickens?

Do not lick the chickens for an early taste of the meat while processing.

. Sorry, I had to poke fun. Seriously though, Salmonella incubation period is 12-72 hours and lasts up to a week in a healthy person. I doubt it was salmonella. How long were you ill? Likely, it was something you already had before processing the birds.

I checked the Mayo Clinic webpage on salmonella before I posted that. According to the Mayo Clinic "The incubation period ranges from several hours to two days."

So, from the time Fowl_Odor002 started processing the first of 9 birds, ate dinner, watched TV and took a shower, took a nap it is not inconceviable that salmonella might be a factor. That's why I asked whether the symptons passed or he/she still felt badly the following day. Fowl_Odor002 went straight from processing to eating dinner, I didn't suggest that he/she was licking the raw chickens..just wondering if proper hygene was being followed.

So come back and I shall taunt you a second time!

And I used Cornell University for my research for Fowl_Odor002

So, a few hours or 12 depends on who you ask. I was just trying to help and add a little levity to a sick fella's day. And, I also asked how long the illness persisted to assist in the diagnosis. So "taunt" me if you will but I will not participate in your childish tongue poking smiley face dispute.

Sorry, that is the problem of this kind of communication. I thought I was responding with what I interpreted as the same teasing levity of your post, complete with silly smiley faces. I was not offended by your "poking fun" at me or ROTFLMAO smiley, but it seems you were offended by my poking fun back and tongue waggling smiley. Offense was not my plan. Again, apology,I'll edit my comment and remember in the future that bowhunter862 doesn't appreciate my attempts at humor.

Just my two cents about a prior experience with a stomach bug of unknown origin......it happen on thanksgiving eve and the next morning I COULD NOT prepare the turkey. I had to sit in another room and shout instructions to my husband while trying not to up chuck.
JMO...the sight of the chickens in the fridge could very well have nothing to do with your processing them or suppressed feelings. If you're sick, anything will make you squeamish.
Hope you feel better.
