Processed our first batch raised with electric poultry netting

We processed 21 of our meaties today at about 6 1/2 weeks.

This was our first batch raised in a cattle panel shelter surrounded by electric poultry netting. We moved them outside at about 2 1/2 weeks (with a light) and they've been out ever since. It was wonderful to not have to deal with those stinky shavings! I'd say we saved $30 in shavings cost on this batch........although, we spent quite a bit on the fence, so it probably doesn't even out!

I'm looking forward to our fall batch already!
 
Nice job. Feels good having it done, doesn't it? I really pushed it with my current batch. They've been out since 1 1/2 weeks with the warm weather. Not a single problem so far. We've got a big coop now, so they go in right with all the other chickens. No special treatment really. I think they really do better raised like any other chicken.
 
Yes, it's very nice to see those beautiful chickens in ziplocs!

We still have my son's 3 4-H meaties and one we're raising to roaster size. The forecast doesn't look good if you're a 7 week old meaties, does it? Poor things!
