Processing Day Support Group ~ HELP us through the Emotions PLEASE!

We had to fence the front after chickens kept getting hit by cars, but we live in the country. Funny thing is, we spent thousands fencing the front but didn't finish the back by the carport. Chickens went around to eat berries in the road, one got hit by a car, driver came after us for $500 bumper damage.

And these chickens were supposed help us out with cheaper eggs

Oh man... that sucks. Our backyard is fenced, but it's only 4 ft tall, so they hopped the fence A LOT. Nothing like chasing a chicken through the neighborhood

They have their own fenced area now, 6ft tall.

How are you feeling today?

I'm alright.. tired, antsy, frustrated

all stuff that's no big deal, really. We're headed to the hospital within the next hour. Never did manage to get anything started on my own. We'll see what happens.

I wish my front yard was fence, I would totally let the girls keep the grass down... but the city is all "no fences in front yards"
Can you find out what that defines?? Perhaps temporary fencing is not included-- like electronetting. I wouldn't offer to the authorities the info about the electronet, but just find out what "no fences" means and a difintion of" front yard" . YOu might look around to see what others have or have not done.

Here in NEwEngland, a fenced front yard is traditional from Pilgrim times.

Thank you!

I was blessed to have a GREAT Mom....she was and is a true pioneer woman and taught me so many things. I owe a lot of who I am today to her and her wisdom and she learned quite a bit from my paternal grandmother, so it's a wonderful chain of women teaching women....then I had to go and have three boys!

That's ok Bee. You've got time to train up that adorable grandbaby girl.

Frankly, I have no tree coverage in the front, so it would be a massive serving platter for hawks

I have a laaarge tree in my backyard that shelters them, two birds decided to wander into a clearing without tree coverage and SWOOP! Hawk bait. Chased the hawk off both times and both birds healed, but yeah.. active hawk area.

Eventually I am making a tractor of sorts, and move them around the yard

(in case anyone wonders, wifi in the hospital and a laptop... one has to love technology! Also, I have an awesome nurse, we even talked about our chickens. Oh yeah!)

I went away for a few days and got way behind on this thread! Hope everyone had a great Easter.

To catch up on the past few pages---

ALL of my animals get names.
I get attached to almost all my animals as well. But I know in advance which ones are going to be food, and I tell my kids which ones will be food so no surprises.
I think all animals deserve love while on this Earth.
Name them. Hold them. Talk to them.
Yes, it will probably make processing a little more difficult on you, but you will know in your heart you gave your animal the best time on Earth you possibly could & they are repaying you for your love & kindness by giving their life to nurish your family. This is the only way I can look at it, and it's what I teach my children.

I don't kill any of my animals. I can't do it. Only thing I can kill are mosquitoes and roaches! But I do pluck & I break down all the meat off of the body & seal it up for the freezer. I won't buy any animal products from the store (with the exception of cheese & yogurt, my kids beg for it & raw milk is illegal here so I can't make my own).
