Amish in our area will kill and process our broilers for $1.60 each. Well worth it. Don't mind dropping them off and picking up dead birds. Just can't kill them myself. Kind of funny seeing that I am an avid deer and turkey hunter. Can't kill a coon I catch in a trap either. Makes no sense, but it is what it is.

Makes perfect sense.....the deer and turkey are not up close and personal. My husband doesn't like to kill the chickens, and he wouldn't kill the raccoon that he caught in a trap that had been up on my porch eating the cat's food. So he took it to the far end of our property and turned it loose. The next night I caught him just off the porch, and I shot at him....don't know if I hit him or not. The next morning I found that he had eaten ALL of my ripened gooseberries that I was planning to pick that very day. No more raccoon trapping at my house, since the hubby can't catch and kill either....

There are no Amish here--There are some Menonites though....

You know this makes me feel better, and I am glad your honest. I have had no issues gutting deer and I think only ONCE had a bad time of it, I shot a doe who had a ton of milk in her, I was devastated and upset, but I was alone so I had to do the deeds. But it worked out because I could have a cry and thank the Lord for the food and move on. Thanks blueheeler

You know what bothered me? Our Roosters are absolutely GORGEOUS and I was number 1 worried someone would steel them as that sat outback, number 2 I had to leave a cooler and ice and such. If it be 15-20 years ago I wouldn't have minded letting my stuff sit outside, but not anymore. Best keep close eye on what you got!

I think what I'm gonna do is participate - perhaps just by watching - the next time my friends process chickens. They've added 35 meaties (I paid for ten of them and supplied some feed) which will be ready to process very soon. The husband kills them, then they work together to finish processing; they use a WhizBang plucker.

I am not attached to their meat birds at all. If I can handle that experience, I think I might be able to move forward to participate in processing the Roos from the Easter Hatch when that time comes.
