Okay I'm needing help already..... I got 7 silkies and 12 extra males for warmth. We've already decided we're going to eat them (not sure on the breed) but they're soooo sweet to the little silkies. Toughen me up y'all! Lol

I can't decide if the water causes the loose stool, or if they are drinking more because of the loose stool.....kind of a chicken-egg thing.

I know what you mean about the willies. My husband calls them Frankenchickens because of the way they walk, and the HUGE breasts!!

I have thought the same about the water. I suspect that because they are forcing so much food through they digestive tract that they may have a constant low-level case of gastro enteritis. It would explain the loose stools and excessive drinking.

As a woman who is, ahem, amply endowed, they have my sympathy on the huge breasts issue. And they do not have access to foundation garments to provide support!

Mine would go from having firm poop to splattering within the same day. Some of it seemed to have to do with how much water they were drinking. Also, a lot of the food seems to pass through without being digested.

Now that I don't have the CX, I am amazed at how little food and water I am using for the Red Rangers. For 5 CX and 9 Red Rangers I was filling the 3 gallon water container at least once a day. Now I can go two days for the 8 Red Rangers I have left and the mother hen and chicks I have running with them.

Cornish X's are different from other chickens. I did not know how much until I got these 5 chicks. I don't know if I would ever raise them again because they kind of give me the willies.

Are red rangers the same as freedom rangers? The nastiness I was referring to is the mental picture of fat blob chickens losing feathers and wallowing in their poop.

I'm just like a complete weirdo! I can't hunt and butch my own deer, eat cattle we've raised and butchered and none of that bothers me but these little things are so cute. I'm hoping when the day comes, I won't be as bad lol

12 cockerels running in a pen will motivate you to process probably faster than you realize. the cute fluff balls start competing and giving you the eye. Then the claws and beaks start getting used on you. They become worse than a hormones raging teenage boy.

I got attacked by my hormone raging colt the other night! Needless to say he's getting the snip snip ASAP! So I'm sure it won't be any different with these guys

How old are they? Because I always look at cute little fuzzy chicks and think that I could never put them in the freezer, and then they grow up and become nuisances. They are not as cute when they are sparring constantly and molesting the hens.

yep, agree with both of you on this one. For me the deciding factor for a number of them is how they treat the hens. They get malicious sometime and that's it... off to the Cone of Eternity
