hello and Merry christmas to you all and to my friends over there.
Im wondering if there is anything other than detergent which we can add to the water to make it easier to pluck feathers from the bird at processing time.
any help greatly received
Thanks
Helen

I use regular Dawn for ducks....

Not needed for chickens. If they don't come out easy enough... up the temperature. I like to use around 145-150 to scald chickens.... Closer to 170 for ducks.

Good luck with that!

Yes, dawn is a dish detergent. I also use only hot water at 150, dunk and swish about 30 seconds and everything comes out nice and easy. of course you gotta work a little on the wing and tail feathers.

thankyou, so i assume that i need to add detergent?
my partner is so anti soap as far as the kitchen goes, he rinses the plates and glasses etc so theres no soap residue, and the idea of bathing his birds in soap kinda gets to him!!

I have never used to soap to remove Feathers.....I just Scald & Pluck.... or I skin them; depends on what I butchered them for.
