I have 6 chickens, 3 leghorns and 3 production reds, recently one of my production red pullets started to lay eggs, they are all around 17 weeks old. Soon a leghorn began to lay eggs so i bought oyster shells so they can get calcium until i can get layers feed. Today one of my other production reds, the nicest of all my chickens was acting weird. She was just standing around, not running with the others or greeting me by the fence or eating. I immediatly knew something was wrong and tried to feel for anything like an egg blockage, but i cant tell. Tonight she was straining and laid a yolkwith no shell. i isolated her but she started to look normal again and started to eat and drink again. What could be wrong with her, she still is not acting normal. I am new to chicken keeping and dont know how to help her.

Since she just started laying, her innards havnt gotten used to laying yet...this is normal. Give her time and she'll be laying normally. However, you need to get your birds layer feed asap, not just oyster shells to eat.
