Production Reds and RIR?

chseeads Thanks for your reply. I have RIRs that were purchased at Murray McMurray. They are all beautiful birds even in coloration and pretty dark. But I wasn't sure if production reds looked any different. Also i heard production reds will lay better than Heritage Reds. Any truth to this?

Nice pic Freeze. My birds also loved our pumpkins this past fall. They ate the entire pumpkin and left a perfectly hollowed bowl only1/8 inch of the skin was left.

There are a lot of differences between Red's and production reds. Body type, color, size, temperament etc.
Here are some of my Rhode island Reds..

I think we're kinda talkin' about two different things here.....

Production RIR's are not red sex-links. They're just a strain that's been bred toward egg production rather than type, so color, body, etc. doesn't match the typical heritage RIR. They don't have any white on them though.

I've got 6 RIR's from McMurray too. In their catalog they call them "production."
