Hi y'all! My teenager hatched 6 buff Brahma chicks as an agri-science project. The original plan was to sell the birds after the project. However, we are really digging the chickens and want to keep them. Right now they are inside a barn in a make shift coop. They are big now though, and we are looking for a coop (and want to add more birds). We have 5 hens and a rooster. We live in west Texas where shade is minimal and heat is a given. I am trying to learn all I can before moving them out into their own coop to make sure they do well.

Welcome!

Good luck with your chicks! Buff Brahmas are a lovely breed.

Thank you everyone. The buff's are really sweet, even the rooster. Our 9 year old has special needs and the chickens seem to "know". They have been therapeutic for him (which is another reason we are keeping them).

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join to our flock. The first breed I ever had (about 50 years ago) were Brahmas, and they were gentle giants. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
