FloppyGirl
Songster
Not sure what I am dealing with, but on Sunday I noticed my girl Ginger (hatched last spring) had a pretty pasty/mucousy vent. I brought her inside and gave her an Epsom salt bath. She seems to be walking ok, is not lethargic and is eating and drinking normally. I did give her an internal exam as she had a bit of a foul smell to her even after the bath and there is no egg inside her vent, however there did seem to be dried up bits of flesh/poop inside? I cleaned out as much as I could without causing injury pulling off something that wasn't ready to come off.
I had dealt with two prolapses last year (one girl fully recovered, the other had recurring issues for a few months before passing away). Both girls had the egg protruding from their vents stuck inside the membranes. This is not what I am seeing here so am stumped if egg has passed or not? I have collected a couple of eggs with some blood on them prior to this but I also have a lot of new layers so wasn't overly alarmed. However today, Ginger did strain once in a while pushing her entire insides out, but they retreat without issue. She is pooping solids, urates included. I have given her a crushed calcium citrate tablet yesterday and today.
My girls are on a good layer feed, always have access to fresh water as well as calcium/grit. However, they did go through a few days of being stressed with young cockerels trying to mate them, but this was mostly at sunrise/bedtime. I was there to interfere until I was able to arrange for someone to take them away.
Any suggestions on what else I can try?
